Prime Food Service: BFC Dakota Warehouse Management System (WMS), TruckBuilder and TRAX@2

Summary

The BFX Dakota WMS, TruckBuilder and TRAX automate the receiving, putting away, picking, packing and shipping of goods. The TruckBuilder also makes sure that the pallets that need to be delivered to the first customer on the delivery route are stored at the back of the trailer.

The video (5 mins, 2018) walks through all the steps. Those steps are listed in more detail below the video.

All Steps in Detail

  1. BFC WMS

    1. Receiving food products (steaks)  in a cool room

      1. Scan vendor shipping label bar code per pallet

      2. Complete product control questions and pallet information

      3. Assigning each pallet a license for traceability

    2. Product Put Away in a cool room

      1. Scanning license (pallet number) for proper put away

      2. Forklift has a mounted computer screen

      3. Driver retrieves a pallet license.

      4. A storage slot is displayed for that license

      5. Removing old pallet from slot

      6. Moving new pallet into slot

      7. Scanning slot to verify proper put away

    3. Dashboards to enhance efficiency in the warehouse

    4. New scanners to increase productivity and efficiency

  2. BFC Truckbuilder

    1. Used to efficiently select Product (FIFO), build pallets and map truck for delivery

      1. FIFO (First In First Out)

      2. First received (First In) products are used for first incoming customer orders (First Out)

      3. Group all product on one or more pallets that need to be delivered to a customer (eg retail store)

      4. Make sure that pallets for the last customers to be delivered on the route, are in the front of the trailer.

    2. Pick, pack and ship

      1. Truckbuilder optimizes:

        1. The route by determining which customers to group on a particular route, and to sequence the customers on the route to minimize traveled distance.

        2. The picking by enabling the route builder to determine the optimal truck template (eg. 28 ft trailer having  100 cubic foot for frozen products, 120 cubic foot for refrigerated products, and 2000 cubic food foot for dry foods) based on the type of items (frozen, refrigerated or dry) and packaging volume (cartons) in the sales orders for the customers on a given route.  A zone template will determine the picking order i.e. the order of slots from which items need to be picked in the warehouse.

        3. Click here to see some details of the Truckbuilder application.

      2. Print slot labels for product selection

      3. For a given slot  label, select product

        1. Scans the pallet license and slot number from the shipping label

        2. Scans the pallet license and slot number of the bin where the product is stored

        3. If barcodes match, get product

        4. Scan barcode of product to be sure that it is the right product

        5. If so, put product of cart

        6. Keep putting many milk gallons (product or item) in crates on the pallet

        7. Scan again each item label to be sure that the right item (milk gallon eg lowfat) and the right quantity of that item are on the pallet.

      4. Selector can now move to the next slot, and do the same

      5. Product selection in dry section

      6. Selection is complete. Pallets can be loaded for delivery

  3. Trax 2

    1. Delivery and product tracking

      1. Delivery

        1. Deliverer scans each carton barcode (shipping label) again to make sure that the right product is delivered in the right quantity to the customer.

      2. Recalls: no problem. Recall tracking and reporting

      3. Scanning product upon delivery at eg. Retail store
